Summer Break + Too Much Free Time = Danger for Teens
While most of America's youth are gearing up for long days of freedom this summer, many PARENTS ARE WORRIED about the pop culture dangers tempting their teenager's time and mind via the Internet, teen entertainment, music and Madison Avenue.
VENTURA, Calif., June 26, 2008—Re•Create: A Manual for Building a Culture in Your Home Stronger Than the Culture Deceiving Your Kids releases nationwide August 1.
- More teens LOSE THEIR VIRGINITY IN THE SUMMER MONTHS than at any other time of the year (ABC News, 2007)
- More teens SMOKE MARIJUANA for the first time in JUNE and JULY than in any other months of the year (White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, 2007)
- Teens see an average of 3,000 sexual references per week on MTV (Parents Television Council, 2004)
"It's no secret that teens are in trouble today," said Luce in his new book Re•Create (Regal Books, 2008). Luce and more than 12,000 teens gathered in New York City for a ReCreat Rally and Conference in February 2008 (photos and b-roll available). "We see the effects of perverse rock and hip-hop music, but we don't know what to do. We know that Hollywood and MTV have a grip on our kids, but we have no idea how to protect them," Luce said.
In Re•Create, Ron Luce, founder of Teen Mania, one of the world's largest Christian teen organizations, helps parents navigate "the insidious grip of culture." With tangible and practical examples, Re•Create helps parents and concerned adults rescue a teenage generation from the "culture machine" that is bent on destroying them.
Complete with a small group study guide, a companion DVD and even a teen version of the book, Re•Create teaches parents, concerned adults and church leaders how to:
- Check the cultural invasion of your home
- Woo your teen's heart
- Let your teen trump your career
- Make "house choices" that build teens of integrity
