Friday: Free Health Screenings Offered at T.D. Jakes’ ManPower Conference
Screenings to Address Common Health Concerns for Men and Encourage Blood Donations
DALLAS, Aug. 25, 2010—Attendees at this weekend's ManPower Conference, hosted by Bishop T.D. Jakes, can participate in free health screenings this Friday, Aug. 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Courtesy of MegaCARE, the humanitarian organization affiliated with The Potter's House church, men can be screened for a variety of health concerns including diabetes and general cardiovascular issues like the impact of high blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Also on hand this Friday will be a chiropractor to help analyze attendees back pain in addition to general consultations with a physician, dentist and registered nurses.
A new element to this year's conference, ManPower Health Stations are designed to educate and raise awareness on the most common health issues that can affect all men but impact a considerably high percentage of African-American and Hispanic men. Accompanying the screenings, Health Awareness stations set up around the conference will provide attendees with information on everything from prostate cancer, hypertension and STD/HIV information to general fitness/nutrition tips and dental care. Prostate cancer survivors will also be available to discuss their stories and provide preventative prostate health information.
"Knowledge is power," said Pastor Ronnie Guynes, director of MegaCARE. "We have an opportunity to not only help men improve their spiritual lives but also address and identify some of the common physical conditions that affect so many men in our communities, which may often go undetected."
A key element to any Bishop T.D. Jakes conference is giving back to the community. At this year's ManPower event, men will be encouraged to save not only their life, but will also be encouraged to help save the lives of others by taking advantage of the on-site blood drive and sickle cell donor registration.
ManPower Conference equips men of all ages, races and spiritual backgrounds to tackle challenging issues including finances, romance, health, family life and leadership at work and home. Through a seminar-style setting, Bishop T.D. Jakes will encourage men to conquer the areas of their lives that have been disrupted by economic hardships, health issues, domestic challenges and other obstacles. The conference prepares men to build strong marriages, increase their confidence and take on community responsibilities. Jakes established ManPower more than 15 years ago to address the needs and struggles of men from all walks of life.
ManPower will be held Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 26-28, 2010 at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena (1201 Houston St., Fort Worth, TX 76102). To register, visit www.manpowerconference.org or call 1-800-BISHOP2.
