Film Offers New Perspective on Easter
The Easter Story - Now Told Through the Eyes of a Woman
ORLANDO, Fla., March 18, 2008—This Easter, women across the United States will have a chance to view the Easter story in an all new way. Rather than approaching the story of Jesus like the typical Easter Pageant, Magdalena: Released From Shame offers a unique perspective-looking at the life of Jesus through the eyes of a woman.
Released by Nardine Productions, Magdalena: Released From Shame is the story of Mary of Magdala, also known as Mary Magdalene, and what she may have experienced walking with Jesus of Nazareth during His public ministry. The film portrays how Jesus values women by focusing on historical accounts of His interactions with them.
"This film says to women, 'God cares about you. You are significant, and you can have more value than you can imagine,'" said producer Jill Schrag.
Impressed by the unique perspective of the movie, The JESUS Film Project is helping to distribute Magdalena: Released From Shame to audiences in the United States. In addition to the DVD, The JESUS Film Project is offering additional resources that can be used by families, women's study groups and churches to help enhance the experience of watching the film as well as to provide follow-up opportunities.
"Magdalena: Released From Shame resonates with women everywhere, as they realize they are loved and valued by God," said The JESUS Film Project's Jenny Steinbach who is coordinating U.S. distribution efforts for Magdalena: Released From Shame. "Every time I watch this film it touches my heart in a very personal and profound way."
