When Franklin Graham arrives in Shreveport for the Ark-La-Tex Franklin Graham Festival this weekend, his first mission is to give hurricane evacuees a new home. Leisa Cole-Johnson, her four children, and her brother will be given keys to a new home and a chance to rebuild their lives.
Graham, who will lead the Ark-La-Tex Franklin Graham Nov. 11-13 at the CenturyTel Center, is also president of international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, which has provided more than $30 million in aid to Katrina victims, including donating 100 mobile homes to churches in the Shreveport area to shelter hurricane victims for the next year.
“Hurricane evacuees have been through some harrowing times. The first step to helping these families return to some degree of normalcy is to give them a home and let these compassionate churches embrace them in the community,” said Graham.
Later in the day Friday, when the Ark-La-Tex Franklin Graham Festival begins at 7:00 p.m., Graham will set aside a special time to recognize the people displaced by the storm and all of the volunteers who have been helping them. The event marks the beginning of a weekend filled with messages of hope by Franklin Graham and high-energy music by award-winning artists.
The Ark-La-Tex Franklin Graham Festival will be held at CenturyTel Center. All events are open to the public and free of charge.
Musical guests at the Festival will include Nicole C. Mullen, The Katinas, Salvador, The Charlie Daniels Band, and Lynda Randle. The Festival will also feature a kids event Saturday at 10:00 a.m. featuring Bibleman. The Festival is a joint effort of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and local pastors, community leaders, and churches.
