Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Announces Metro Manila Franklin Graham Festival 2006

Franklin Graham Festival to be Held at Rizal Park, Feb. 2-5, 2006

MANILA, Philippines, Oct. 21, 2005—The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) recently announced that Franklin Graham, along with local church and civic leaders, will hold the Metro Manila Franklin Graham Festival 2006 at Rizal Park, Feb. 2-5, 2006.

“I look forward to bringing a message of hope to Manila,” said Graham, who recently accepted local church leaders’ invitation to lead the Festival. “People will hear a lot of music from award-winning artists, personal stories of encouragement and hope, and most importantly, an opportunity to accept a challenge that will change their lives.”

Thousands of volunteers, representing 1,324 churches, are helping lay the foundation for the Metro Manila Franklin Graham Festival. Festival preparation committees are currently planning in the areas of youth, prayer, pastors, arrangements, logistics, children’s ministries, volunteers, communications, students, language, and men/women ministries.

All Festival programs will be open to the public and free of charge.

Graham, the son of America’s most famous evangelist Billy Graham, describes this event as a “festival for the soul.” “We have festivals for food, beer, art, and music, so why not a festival for the soul?” said Graham.

Graham spoke to more than 490,000 people in 2005 at Festivals in Australia, Paraguay, Angola, Moldova, and in the United States: Corpus Christi, Texas, and Shreveport, La.

Since 1989, Franklin Graham has held an average of seven Festivals each year as an evangelist for BGEA. Graham is president and CEO of the organization and continues to travel the world as president of the international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse.
Samaritan’s Purse is working in 100 countries this year, including Pakistan, where aid is being provided to tens of thousands of families impacted by the recent earthquake. The relief organization sent a Boeing 747 cargo jet with 120 tons of emergency supplies, including rolls of weatherproof plastic to shelter 24,000 families, medicine and hospital equipment, hundreds of wheelchairs, and tons of blankets. Samaritan’s Purse is also helping those in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India as they recover from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Dec. 26, 2004. The organization is rebuilding some 3,000 houses and is also providing water, food, healthcare, and replacement fishing boats.
