Texas-Based Television Network to Provide Aid to Hurricane Ike Victims
Tuesday, Sept. 16: Daystar TV to Broadcast Live From Houston to Lead the Way for Recovery
DALLAS, Sept. 15, 2008—Hurricane Ike devastated southern Texas, leaving thousands of families without basic needs: shelter, electricity, food and water. Dallas-based Daystar TV - the world's second largest faith-based network - will broadcast live in Houston on Tuesday, Sept. 16, to help fellow Texans recover after Ike.
Partnering with Grace Community Church, Lakewood Church & the City of Houston, Feed the Children, and the Salvation Army, Daystar will make on-air appeals for people to donate directly to organizations aiding the victims and lead the way by donating:
- $10,000 to The Salvation Army
- $10,000 to Grace Community Church
- $10,000 to Feed the Children, enabling 400 families to receive food and water for one week
In addition, shirts, hats and other items will be distributed to Ike victims by Daystar TV staff at Grace Community Church.
"Our goal is to provide immediate assistance to families affected by the hurricane," said Marcus Lamb, CEO of Daystar TV. "Through these strategic partnerships, we can rush help to those in need."
"As Texans, we are devastated by the losses the families in Galveston and Houston are facing," said Joni Lamb, co-founder of Daystar TV. "Though we are praying for the safety and care of all affected, we want to provide a more tangible demonstration of our concern by making these donations."
KLTJ, Daystar TV's local Houston station, has been leveled by Hurricane Ike. The roof has caved-in, major portions of the brick walls are missing and both production and broadcast operations have ceased.
The Texas branch of The Salvation Army has only received $50,000 in donations this year but has spent more than $1.5 million to date on disaster relief - providing more than 53,000 meals and operating 20 shelters.

- Daystar TV correspondent, Andi Parker, broadcasting live from Houston
- Sarah Williams, local Salvation Army coordinator

Daystar TV founders Marcus and Joni Lamb are viewed daily by millions as they co-host Celebration - a one-hour talk show, encouraging and inspiring viewers by interviewing some of America's most influential Christian leaders and singing live on the air with the Daystar Singers.
Founded in 1997 by Marcus and Joni Lamb, Daystar TV, the faith-based network for today's generation, has in 10 short years become the world's second largest Christian television network. Daystar operates more than 50 television stations in major markets across the United States and is available to more than 70 million U.S. homes and in virtually every country in the world via satellite and local cable providers.
Daystar TV is a financially self-sustaining network. All donations sent to the Network go to ministry expansion and humanitarian aid efforts, more than $25 million of aid sent to date.
