U.S. Volunteers Provide Food and Hope to 101,550 Poverty-Stricken Americans this Thanksgiving
Boxes of Love Gives Americans a Reason to Be Thankful during the Holidays
NEW YORK, Nov. 6, 2007—Still Time to SPONSOR A BOX before Thanksgiving
"I ate too much" is a common refrain at Thanksgiving. This holiday season, thousands of Americans nationwide are giving the gift of "much" to families who have "too little" with Boxes of Love containing an entire holiday meal with all the trimmings.
Here's Life Inner City's Boxes of Love is partnering with volunteers in 15 participating cities to pack and distribute some 16,925 boxes filled with the ingredients for classic holiday meals-turkey, ham or chicken, stuffing, potatoes, canned vegetables, bread, juice and dessert-as well as faith-based reading materials. The boxes, which each feed a family of six, will be distributed through neighborhood churches to feed more than 101,550 people in the United States.
"I understand the hope that a simple box of food can bring when you've fallen on hard times," said Charlean Quattlebaum, who experienced that hope first-hand when she received a "Box of Love." Now Charlean is giving back - helping others in her community of Louisville, Ky., the same way her own family was helped. "This is my way of letting people know that there is a way out of any situation they are in - there is hope."
"BOXES OF LOVE" SPONSORS STILL NEEDED: For information on how to sponsor a "Box of Love" and provide a Thanksgiving meal to a hungry family, visit www.HLIC.org.
For 21 years, Boxes of Love, a project of Here's Life Inner City, has provided holiday cheer to America's families. In addition to providing food, Boxes of Love helps families make personal connections to community churches that care about their needs and offer hope.
Here's Life Inner City, the urban ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, International, partners with more than 1,200 inner-city churches and organizations to reach out to America's poor with the resources they need not only to survive but also to succeed and overcome the challenges of poverty. Founded in 1983 in New York, Here's Life Inner City has grown to serve 16 cities, with a staff of 155.
