Transportation Channels Re-Open - Expanding Efforts to Help Earthquake Victims in Haiti
Containers of Relief Supplies Arriving with Critically Needed Food and Medical Supplies
DALLAS, Feb. 23, 2010— The port is functioning again and commercial flights have now begun landing at the airport in Port-au-Prince. As these key transportation channels re-open, Global Aid Network is utilizing the opportunity to send in critical supplies for earthquake victims-including baby food, dehydrated rice/soy/vegetable mixes, blankets, medical supplies, bottled water, water purification filters and buckets for water filtration.
"Depending on the generous donations of our supporters, we hope in the coming months to join our partners to ship more than a hundred containers of aid to Haiti," said Duane Zook, CEO of Global Aid Network. "As Haiti transitions from the acute relief phase to long-term rebuilding and development, we are committed to stand alongside Haitians for the long haul."
Global Aid Network responded immediately to the earthquake with the distribution of more than 1 million pre-positioned meals. Since that time, the international relief organization has provided:
- Medical treatment for more than 6,000 patients
- Food distribution, including a week's supply of rice and beans, to more than 5,000 victims taking refuge at the National Soccer Stadium
- Distributions of clothing and shoes
- Food for some 4,000 displaced people camping at Croix-de-Bouquets
- Trauma care counseling with more than 600 earthquake survivors
In addition to current efforts, Global Aid Network plans to mobilize 11 additional medical teams in Haiti during the next 90 days through its partners.
"The devastation in Haiti is unparalleled. What was destroyed in 35 seconds will take months and years to rebuild," said Zook.
