Ohio’s “City of Hospitality” Putting Out Massive Welcome Mat for the Sports World
$6 Million, 40-Acre Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia Will Impact Lives in Ohio and Throughout the World
XENIA, Ohio, May 2, 2006—For Xenia, Ohio, the world just got smaller. Thanks to the development of a massive sports complex by locally-based international sports ministry Athletes in Action, Xenia will soon have the incredible opportunity to impact the sports community around the world.
"I am excited about the future of Athletes in Action, particularly with the expansion of the sports complex in view," said Bill Pugh, president of Athletes in Action. "Our desire is not to just build more sports fields, but to build the opportunity to positively influence the lives of thousands around the globe, through the platform of sport."
The 40-acre complex-including regulation size football, baseball, soccer, and softball fields-will be housed on the former campus of the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Home in Xenia located along the US-35 bypass. Each field will be constructed of artificial turf, allowing the facility to be used year-round. Athletes in Action expects the massive project to be completed by the fall of 2006.
This new addition to Athletes in Action's World Training and Resource Center in Xenia is designed to:
- provide a single location for Athletes in Action's sports teams to train for national and international tours.
- present opportunities for major sports camps and tournaments to be offered in Southwest Ohio.
- offer international athletes a U.S.-based facility for training.
Currently, Athletes in Action can provide on-campus housing for some 200 athletes. Completion of the sports complex, combined with the current housing options, accelerates Athletes in Action to a new height of ministry opportunity.
Athletes in Action, the sports ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, works with athletes and coaches to use the unique platform of sport to help people around the world with questions of faith. For more information about Athletes in Action, visit www.aia.com.
