America’s Homeless Receive Thousands of Survival Kits
Here's Life Inner City and Local Volunteers Deliver Gifts of Warmth and Messages of Hope
NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2007—During winter, America's inner-city poor can often be seen huddled under newspaper or cardboard boxes trying to survive the bitter cold. This winter, volunteers across the United States are offering warmth and encouragement to the homeless through Homeless Care Kits.
Urban ministry Here's Life Inner City is teaming with inner-city churches and local volunteers to help deliver more than 7,200 Homeless Care Kits. Containing blankets, warm gloves, a hat and scarf, socks, toiletries and more, the Homeless Care Kits are designed not only to meet the immediate physical needs of the poor but also to connect them with caring volunteers who can help meet their long-term needs.
"The Homeless Care Kits are hand-delivered by people in the community who can offer hope and encouragement," said Ted Gandy, national director of Here's Life Inner City. "When you have nothing, hope is a precious commodity."
HOMELESS CARE KIT SPONSORS STILL NEEDED: For information on how to sponsor a Homeless Care Kit and provide warmth to the homeless this winter, visit www.hlic.org.
Since 1983, Here's Life Inner City and more than a thousand partner churches and organizations have been responding to the growing epidemic of poverty and despair in the inner city. The wide-ranging efforts have provided the poor with food and other basic necessities, life skills, career development and youth development programs.
Here's Life Inner City, the urban ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, International, is dedicated to equipping churches to provide help and hope to the poverty-stricken in their communities.
