All-Star Weekend Event Honors People in Sports Who Understand that Being a Role Model is not a Game

Las Vegas, Feb. 20, 2007—It takes skill and hard work to become a star in the NBA - but what players and coaches do away from the basketball court is what turns them into "All-Star" role models.

Hosted by the international sports ministry Athletes in Action, the popular All-Star Breakfast will start recognizing those exemplary role models with two new awards. The Jerry Colangelo Award and the Bobby Jones Award, introduced during the 2007 breakfast, will be presented annually to NBA players, coaches, and executives who exemplify the same outstanding character, integrity, and faith demonstrated by the awards' namesakes.

Among the sports celebrities who joined Athletes in Action for the 2007 All-Star Breakfast:

• Jerry Colangelo - Managing director of USA Basketball and chairman/CEO of the Phoenix Suns
   
• Bobby Jones - Four-time NBA All-Star and member of 1983 NBA Champion Philadelphia 76ers
   
• Ernie Johnson - Studio host for Inside the NBA on TNT
   
• Jerry Tarkanian - UNLV head coach who led the team to victory at the 1992 NCAA Championship
   
• Armen Gilliam - UNLV standout who later scored nearly 13,000 points during 15 years in the NBA

Along with the All-Star Breakfast, Athletes in Action joined A World Fit for Kids and actor Kevin Sorbo (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda) to host the All-Star Celebrity Golf Classic. The celebrities teed off on Friday, Feb. 16, at DragonRidge Country Club at MacDonald Highlands in Henderson, Nev.

The All-Star Breakfast is a Sports Legend Series event. The Athletes in Actions Sports Legend Series is comprised of five premier events designed to honor athletes and coaches who model exemplary character, values, integrity, and faith.
