Colson Statement on Justice Dept. No Longer Defending Lawsuits Challenging Defense of Marriage Act

LANSDOWNE, Va., Feb. 23, 2011—BreakPoint and Prison Fellowship Founder Chuck Colson issued the following statement regarding the announcement by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder that his office will no longer defend lawsuits challenging Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as only between a man and a woman:
"The president of the United States is sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution. From my perspective, this decision by the Department of Justice signals the end of the rule of law."
