A Walk Through the Library: The Graham Family Homeplace
Just outside of the the Billy Graham Library's front door is another important part of Mr. Graham's history - the actual home where he lived when he was a boy. The Graham Family Homeplace was built in 1927 by his parents, Frank and Morrow Graham, on the family's dairy farm in rural Charlotte, N.C. In 2006, The Graham Family Homeplace was moved piece by piece to its current location next to The Billy Graham Library.Much of the structure is original, including bricks, windows, and the hardwood floors. Inside visitors will appreciate an eclectic selection of original items that date back to Mr. Graham's early years. Just a sampling of these pieces on display includes: a Bible that belonged to Mr. Graham's mother, a nearly century-old coffee table, and a typewriter that the Graham family used to type letters of encouragement to friends and relatives.
During a visit to the rebuilt Graham Family Homeplace, Billy Graham commented on the memories it triggered - recalling his mother baking and cooking in the kitchen, reading Scriptures in the sunroom, and keeping the books for the family's dairy business.
