College Students Targeted by Atheists for “Conversion”
Required College-Prep Reading for Students and Parents to Combat This "New" Spiritual Attack: "Atheism Remix" Nationwide Release - July 2008
CHICAGO, May 15, 2008—There is a new predator threatening college freshmen on campuses across America: atheists. Preying on the vulnerability and new-found freedom of college students, atheists are attacking Christianity with arguments from philosophy, science and humanism.
Compounding the threat is the recent rise in visibility for atheism via New York Times best-sellers by Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion), Daniel Dennett (Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon), Sam Harris (The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason) and Christopher Hitchens (God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything).
Evidence of the rise of atheism on college campuses can be seen on a number of fronts. Last year, Harvard University hired a humanist chaplain to build a church of non-believers (atheists and agnostics) on campus due to the demand and surge of new atheist "believers."
"The New Atheists are, in their own way, evangelistic in intent and ambitious in hope. They see atheism as the only plausible worldview for our times, and they see belief in God as downright dangerous." (Atheism Remix, page 2)
In Atheism Remix, Dr. Albert Mohler, recognized by TIME magazine as the "reigning intellectual of the evangelical movement in the U.S.," (2003) methodically dismantles the arguments of the four leading New Atheism thinkers - Dawkins, Dennett, Harris and Hitchens - and reveals their agenda that threatens the very foundations of Christianity.
Richard Dawkins - who Dr. Mohler's book calls one of the "four horsemen of the new atheism apocalypse" - spoke to students at Harvard: " 'It may be, that humanity will never reach the quietus of complete understanding, but if we do, I venture the confident prediction that it will be science, not religion, that brings us there.' " (Atheism Remix, pages 29, 87)
Dr. Mohler, current president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, provides the Christian response to the challenge of New Atheism and equips readers to intelligently confront the dogma head-on.
Due to hit stores in July, Atheism Remix outlines the history of atheism, the development of the New Atheism movement and the Christian response.
